Bats

In Ontario we have two species of Bats. Big Brown Bats and Little Brown Bats. Over recent years , due to a fungus called White Nose Syndrome , the population of little Browns has drastically dropped. Little Brown Bats migrate During the winter months. The Big Brown Bat are the most common in our area. Big Brown Bats hibernate.

If you have a colony in your attic , without a doubt it’s a maternity colony. All females with one pup each. They most often have one but can have two.Bats give birth around the middle of June. Within a few weeks the pups are out with mom filling up on up to half their body weight in insects per night. Flying Squirrels

Most people have never seen a Flying Squirrel.This is because they are nocturnal. Their large black eyes and white under side are their trade marks. Be sure they glide they will most often choose the highest point on a structure to enter and exit. They are communal and will be found in groups huddled up for warmth.

Flyers can have two litters per year. The first season begins in early spring and the second in late summer. After a 40 day gestation babes are born. A couple of months later mom will leave and they are on their own. Flying Squirrels can chew but are not as destructive as Grey Squirrels or Red squirrels. Grey Squirrels

These chewing machines are the most common squirrel in central Ontario. Greys are the largest and most destructive of our local Squirrels. Wood , tin , wires. They’ll chew on it. Grey squirrels and black Squirrels are actually the same species. Greys have two breeding seasons per year. January to February and June to July. Red Squirrels

Although small in stature, Red Squirrels can be very destructive. They will chew on pretty much anything from wires to siding. Red squirrels breed in January to February with a 30 day gestation period. The young will venture out of the nest after a couple of months. Raccoons

Raccoons are curious and can cause an incredible amount of damage to your property. From chewing wires to ripping your soffit apart to using your Attic space as a washroom. Skunks

Although Skunks are very docile, they invoke fear amongst the general public.Yes they stink.In most cases a skunk will warn of impending spray by stomping their front feet. They have litters of 4-7 young. After 6-7 weeks the babies develop their scent.
